First day for a first grader

Oh, yes. She looked confident.
(and cute too, if you ask me)

Feeling confident was another story. All-day school seemed pretty scary. Emily has been kind of nervous all week, but she knew there was no getting out of it.

Luckily this morning she felt a little better and was even a tiny bit excited, but that was mostly about buying milk in the cafeteria.

"Should I get chocolate or white?
If I get chocolate today can I also get chocolate tomorrow or not?
What happens if I get chocolate every day?
Can I do that?"

I poked my head into the classroom to make sure she was OK. Look! She's OK! She smiled without even being asked to smile!

She is probably thinking about that chocolate milk.

UPDATE:
Emily had chocolate milk for lunch today.

Chocolate milk every day sounds like a great deal to me. I think I may just go have some right now!

Emily, you look beautiful on your first day of school!

Wow--I loved being a first grader! Emily--I hope your day is extra fun. Did you know that first grade is one of my favorite grades to teach?

I'm getting excited for our school to start next week. I'll have a first grader too! So fun. We still have to pick out all the outfits for the first week. After that, she's on her own. Cute. Cute.

Ummm Emily - don't tell your mom and she will never know that you buy chocolate milk every day! It will be your own little secret!

Good to know that chocolate milk can make the first day less scary. I'll use that in my talks about moving up to first grade with my class!!! Here's to a great year for Em, until it's my turn to have another Carruth!!!

Matthew was most excited about buying milk, too. How funny. They must be related. She looks so grown up for her first day of first grade!
