First Day of Kindergarten!

Emily was just a touch nervous about starting today.  She's in PM Kindergarten to I decided to jam pack the morning with all kinds of errands so she wouldn't have time to think about it.  It worked.  We were so busy we were almost late.

One of the errands was Target (of course) where we saw this fun friend we recognized from Kindergarten orientation.  As soon as she saw Emily by the door this afternoon she came up to her and gave her a big hug.  Whew!  No worries about finding a friend!  I couldn't resist taking a picture of their giant backpacks.

Here's Emily with the best teacher in the whole school!

Families were invited into the Kindergarten room so everyone could see what was going on.  I was worried that Molly and Heidi wouldn't want to leave.  They didn't.

As soon as Emily saw the coloring station I knew we could leave.  I hope she brings this picture home today.  Check out those eyelashes!

Congratulations on starting Kindergarten!

Old Ladies

Emily and I were watching rowing this afternoon.  Congratulations to Bulgaria's Rumyana Nekova, who won the gold medal!

Emily: "Mom, why is she crying?  Is it because she's so old?"

Dear sweet Emily, that gold medalist is younger than your mother.
How old does she think I am?

Swifter, Higher, Stronger

Conversation between Laurie and Emily with help from Molly:

E: Mom, is that person a boy or a girl?
L: Boy.
E: Are you sure?
L: Yep.  He just looks like a girl in that swimsuit.
E: Yeah.  He's wearing a girl swimsuit.
E & M: (Giggling)
M: Mom, that boy is a girl! (More giggles)

E: Look!  That boy is wearing pants with his girl swimsuit!
L: I know, isn't that silly?
E: Why is he wearing pants?
L: Sometimes boy swimmers wear pants in the water to make them go faster.
E: I think it just makes them look crazy.

E: Mom, is that person a boy or a girl?
L: Girl.
E: Are you sure or are  you just tricking me?

We also had a very interesting conversation about Mary Carillo.  Kids have lots of fun questions!

OK, now to my own athletes.

Today's gymnastics camp ended with a big gold medal ceremony!

Emily looked very proud of her accomplishment.
Molly celebrated by eating chocolate goldfish on the podium.
Heidi smiled for the camera for the third time ever!
(It must have been those awesome St. Patrick's Day socks.)

We celebrated the big wins with some fun at the arcade. Won't my girls be ticked off when they discover that these video games require money to work properly?  Please don't tell them.

PS - I just opened the door to Molly's room and found this -

I hope she gets this out of her system as a kid.

Hooray for Molly!

Today was Molly's first day of preschool!

She was very excited about it.

Heidi was a little sad to see her go.
Actually, Heidi wanted to go too.
Or maybe it was because her legs were touching the grass.

Check out the cool dinosaur calendar she made!

If anyone wants to come see this dinosaur calendar in person, please do.  You'll also be able to see these amazing flowers all over the front entry.  I may love these but I love Molly more.  Congratulations on a big day!

For Dave

Since Dave and Mindy are having a boy, I thought they'd like to see who their baby will have fun with soon.  We can't wait for the big day!

Also, hello, cute photos.  I had to post them anyway.
